My expertise in terms of presentations and business presentations stems from a combination of three main elements- firstly, I’ve worked with developing people for over 30 years, having twice been awarded as the Professional Speakers Association educator of the year. Secondly, I’ve worked with hundreds of businesses and thousands of employees, especially in team leader development, with my expertise in this field being represented in seven published books including “The Art of Persuasive Influence” and “Navigating Courageous Conversations”. And lastly, having seen my fair share of subject matter experts deliver great content in a dreary fashion, I’ve worked to create professional and engaging presentations which has seen me reach the status of “Certified Speaking Professional” (CSP)- one of only 10 in New Zealand.

These three factors combine to mean that my presentations are insightful, engaging, and memorable. But I don’t stop there! All of my presentations are customised to the specific organisation or industry that I’m speaking to, by interviewing senior members of the industry and those closer to the frontline in order to tailor my content specifically to the needs of the audience- added to the first three elements, that’s what makes me a fourth dimensional speaker!

Courageous Conversations Presentation

With over 30 years in people development, I have consistently seen team leaders in multiple industries and professions struggle with the same issue: conducting courageous conversations. In this presentation based on my book “Navigating Courageous Conversations! A Roadmap for Addressing Tough Topics (and People!)”, I demystify the subject and give people clear and simple tools to equip their confidence and ability to handle challenging conversations.

As with all of my presentations, I interview relevant industry personnel in order to customize the following content to the context of the audience:

  • Understanding the current relational account balance in order to conduct an effective courageous conversation
  • Above or Below the Line attitudes- the litmus test to assess whether the recipient is on board or not
  • The “Y” Conversations© Model which helps to determine the tone for the too timid and the too tough
  • The BISCuit© Model- because it’s useless navigating to a destination when you don’t have any kind of a roadmap

Health & Safety Presentation

In safety critical industries we’ve been promoting the message for years of ‘speaking up’ when it comes to hazards, near misses, and incidents. However, in this presentation, based on my book "The Art of Persuasive Influence” I address how much safer we will be working in the next evolutionary stage of H&S- placing increased emphasis on the person being ‘spoken up’ to who needs to be ‘open to influence'.

As with all of my presentations, I interview relevant industry personnel in order to customize the following content to the context of the audience:

  • The underlying reasons why people fail to listen
  • The sales approach of leading and influencing health and safety
  • The concepts of “Win/Win” and the “Benefits Approach”
  • And ultimately, what the poor listener needs to do in order to be more “accepting of influence” which obviously extends far beyond health and safety

In this presentation I share my own dramatic journey of my father being involved in a work-related incident that changed our family forever. What might have happened if he had workmates that were prepared to speak out, and if he was the kind of guy that was open to their message, or as Dr John Gottman puts it “Being Open to Influence”?

Behavioural Styles Presentation

Behavioural Styles is by far my most popular and entertaining workshop content that has been requested by businesses over the years in presentation form. Based on my book “Little Red Racing Hood- A Tale of Four Behavioural Styles”, I deliver this in such a way as to have people moving around the room and laughing at each other and themselves in such a way that leaves people talking about their “Colours” long after the conference has concluded.

As with all of my presentations, I interview relevant industry personnel in order to customize the following content to the context of the audience:

  • Demonstrating an uncomplicated system for understanding your own behavioural style including your strengths and challenges
  • Using this system to easily categorize the behavioural style of others, sometimes within minutes of meeting someone
  • Identifying the potential areas for conflict in the relationship so you can adjust your style accordingly, especially if you’re dealing with an opposing behavioural styles

This presentation can be delivered as a standalone subject but is often combined with other complimentary presentation content such as “Courageous Conversations” and “Living and Leading Above the Line”. It can also be delivered as longer, more in-depth workshop content.

Presentation Skills Keynote

  • And the use of objects and props in presentations- not just kids’ play

Above The Line Presentation

Having been fired from every job I’d had until my mid-20’s, I know what it’s like to live and breathe ‘Below the Line’. In fact, it was in my dream job (where ironically, I was teaching people how to have an effective attitude), that I was fired, narrowly reinstated, and then experienced a dramatic shift to ‘Above the Line’ thinking. I therefore know the positive impact both professionally and personally of such a change.

This presentation, based on elements from my book “The Art of Persuasive Influence”, identifies why we live ‘Below the Line’, and what it takes to shift ourselves (and others) to more productive ‘Above the Line’ attitudes and action.
