The debate between Ford and Holden has always been a simple one for me- Henry Ford had some brilliant sayings for the business world, but I’m not aware that James Alexander Holden did. One of my favourites from Ford is:
'Whether you think you can, or you think you can't- you're right.'
If you as a workplace leader believe your team have little potential to improve then you’ll put little to no effort in to do so- and you’ll probably be proven right (like the supervisor I had on leadership training that called his team, I kid you not- “The Broken Biscuits” and had a derogatory name for each individual team member. Of course, we shifted that...)
If, on the other hand, you’re a visionary leader (vision isn’t relegated only to the strategic direction of a business) that believes people can improve, then with appropriate action, you’ll also be proven right.
I’m so grateful for the visionary leaders I’ve worked for, who saw more potential in me than I saw in myself!
