So often, when working with emerging leadership that is struggling to deliver, the issue hinges on one of these four factors:
- Leadership aren't clear themselves on their expectations of the team, or have inadequately communicated them (or too seldom)
- Team members will fail to deliver on expectations for one of three main reasons- lack of knowledge, lack of skill (which takes time to develop) and/or an inappropriate attitude. Coaching and support initiated by leadership aims to address these reasons.
- I’m much more likely to exceed expectations when I’m recognised for my efforts to meet them by leadership
- It’s leadership’s responsibility to have courageous conversations that make people accountable when clear and reasonable expectations haven’t been met, especially if they been consistently unmet.
(Notice the word “leadership” feature at each of the four stages…)
