In previous posts on courageous conversations I've suggested that there are really only three possible outcomes- a positive response which happens over 90% of the time, things getting worse, or things remaining the same after repeated conversations. When things get worse, particularly if an inappropriate attitude escalates, then it gives rise for the instigator of the conversation to justifiably escalate the situation. This may take the form of speaking to upper management, formalizing the process, or embarking down a disciplinary track. In the case of nothing changing over repeated conversations this also gives rise to justifiably escalating the situation.
