It’s a crazy thought, right? But it’s so easy for managers and business owners to expect their emerging leaders to conduct effective Courageous Conversations with little to no training, coaching and support.
If you do have an emerging team leader under your care that has a tough conversation coming up, sit down with them, talk about the mechanics of how the conversation should be approached, then try a couple of “Just in Time” role plays: you play the team leader to model how it should look, debrief, then let the team leader practice in their own role, then once again debrief.
