“No.1: Have the conversation No.2: Have it go well (not the other way round) ”

New workplace leaders often avoid having necessary courageous conversations because of a lack of confidence. If you’re managing people leaders who struggles in this area, communicate to them that the primary goal is to have the conversation, rather than have it go well. This doesn’t mean that we don’t support our people leaders to conduct these conversations as effectively as possible, but it is important to encourage them not to avoid having these conversations by reducing the emphasis on an outstanding outcome and instead placing it firmly on simply having the conversation.
